About Us

Solarize Greater Philadelphia is a Philadelphia Green Capital Corp (PGCC) program administered by the Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA).

PEA is an independent municipal authority established in 2010 to leverage clean energy to address the climate crisis, create local jobs, attract global businesses, drive economic development, and improve quality of life for Philadelphia residents.

PGCC connects projects to capital (public, private and philanthropic) to drive a robust, equitable clean energy market in the Greater Philadelphia region, support the Philadelphia Energy Authority, and respond to the local challenges of climate change.

In 2016, PEA launched the Philadelphia Energy Campaign to invest $1 billion in energy efficiency and clean energy projects in the city over 10 years and create 10,000 living wage jobs in the process. As part of the campaign, PEA launched Solarize Philly to make the process of installing solar as easy and affordable as possible.

In 2025, PGCC expanded the program to become Solarize Greater Philadelphia, serving Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties.

Since 2017, more than 4,400 Philadelphia households have participated in Solarize Philly, with over half of participating households located within low- to moderate-income neighborhoods. As participation grows, Solarize has helped households reduce their electricity expenses while contributing to a more distributed and reliable energy system.

Together, participating households now generate more than 25 megawatts (MW) of clean electricity — comparable to the output of a natural-gas peaker plant used during periods of high demand or the power needed for a 400,000-square-foot data center. Unlike these conventional sources, participants’ rooftop systems produce no air pollution, helping to reduce emissions, improve local air quality, and advance a more equitable and sustainable energy future for Greater Philadelphia.
