Solarize Your Home

Solarize Philly is a city-backed program to help all Philadelphia households go solar. The Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA) launched Solarize Philly to make the process of installing solar as easy and affordable as possible, improving access to clean energy for all neighborhoods.

PEA has carefully selected vetted installers, chosen high-quality equipment for solar panels and energy storage systems, and negotiated important consumer protections.

How It Works

Property owners complete the sign-up form and are then connected to one of our approved installers. An installer will provide a free project proposal tailored to your property’s specific needs, based on roof space, electricity usage and other factors. They can even include a battery storage system in your proposal.

5-7 days

Connecting you to an Installer

PEA will connect you with one of our pre-approved installers. You are welcome to request quotes from any of our installer partners.

2-3 weeks

Free Assessment & Project Proposal

The installer will assess your property and prepare a solar installation proposal for your home.

3 days

On-site Evaluation

After sharing their proposal with you, the installer will perform a site evaluation.
After you approve and sign a contract, your installer will handle all permitting and engineering requirements and work with PECO to manage the interconnection process before the installation.

2-5 months

Engineering & Permitting

Your installer prepares all interconnection and proper permit applications for your project with PECO and the Office of Licenses & Inspections.

1-3 days

Installation

An installation crew comes to your property and installs your solar array. A residential installation usually takes between 1-3 days.

1-3 weeks

Interconnection

PECO replaces your meter with a bidirectional meter so you can receive credit for your excess production. This meter also gives you final permission to turn on the system.

Meet our Installers

Solarize Philly works with a network of approved installers. Each company has been vetted to ensure every project maintains high standards and delivers on the promise of lowering household electricity costs.

Help more families go solar… Share the Sun!

Have solar? You can donate your Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) to support solar installations in low- and moderate-income communities across Philadelphia.

The cost of installing solar can be prohibitive for lower-income families. And lower-income families are the ones who need it the most – they can spend 2.4 times as much on their energy bills as non-low-income households.

Increased energy efficiency measures & solar deployment in low-income communities lowers energy bills, builds local climate resilience, and improves the public health & safety.

Installing solar panels at home can lift a family’s assets & property value, as well as prevent them from having to pick between keeping the lights on or paying for other necessities like food and medicine.

If you own your solar system, you can donate your Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) to support solar at home for another Philadelphia family – learn more & donate your SRECs at phillygreencapital.org/sharethesun
